September 11, 2008 – 8:47am - We have written that the alternative energy sector, and in particular, that the solar segment has been getting hammered lately for both broader macro-market reasons and for reasons specific to it. Specifically, concerns have been mounting that margins for panels are going go decline next year due to commoditization and over-supply, as well as the impact of Spain’s decision to cap new utility plans eligible for feed-in tariffs and to lower subsidies that solar power generators receive for installations by up to 35%. In addition, here in the U.S. concerns are that the renewable tax credits may be allowed to expire in Congress at the GOP holds the Dems hostage on the matter until they get to move ahead with their domestic drilling program.
