Why LDK is One of the Best Stocks to Own in 2009
January 5, 2009 - LDK Solar (NYSE: LDK) closed at $13.12 on Wednesday, the last session of 2008, holding a market cap of $1.48 billion, about 1.06x trailing 12-month sales and 4.42x trailing 12-month earnings. We think this stock is remarkably cheap, and represents one of the best investment opportunities for growth oriented investors and it is the best one that we know of. Here is why.

December 30,2008 - Yingil Green Energy (NYSE:YGE) Still Well Positioned Going into 2009
December 30, 2008 - Yingli Green Energy (NYSE: YGE) is one of the midstream solar companies we touted in 2008, and continue to think is well-positioned in the group. That being said, the stock has been hammered, along with all of the other midstream solar firms. The stock opened on January 2, 2008 at $39.01. Yesterday, the stock closed at $5.34, trading at 0.66x our forecasted sales for 2008 of $1.05 billion (which would represent 88% Y/Y revenue growth, and at about 6x our forecasted 2008 income for YGE at $115.5 million (which would represent 116% Y/Y income growth). So the question is whether the stock is oversold at current levels, and whether it is timely now.

October 22, 2008 - Stocks have been revaluated in the past couple months
LDK Solar (NYSE: LDK) - a Chinese solar wafer maker, which is moving upstream building a massive polysilicon plant which will enable it to better control its costs, and maintain stronger margins. The company has made a habit of raising guidance and beating expectations. Recently, it raised guidance for revenue to a range of $530 to $540 million for the Q3, up from a previous guidance range of $486 to $496 million. We expect it to post $1.8 billion in revenue this year, and $2.9 billion in revenue next year.

October 8, 2008 - LDK Solar (NYSE:LDK)
October 8, 2008 - LDK Solar (NYSE:LDK) reported this morning that it has raised Q3 revenue guidance to a range between $530 million to $540 million, up from a previous guidance range of $486 million to $496 million. It also said that its shipments had a total capacity of 230MW to 240MW, up from a previously forecasted 210MW to 220MW. And it has reached 1.2GW of production capacity by the end of the quarter. This was its year-end goal, so it is clearly ahead of schedule. None of this should be too surprising for investors paying attention to LDK's results over the past couple of years. It has made a practice of executing and beating Street expectations, and raising guidance. Nonetheless, its stock has been sold off lately on broader market weakness and due to the Street's reaction to Goldman Sach's downgrades of First Solar (Nasdaq:FSLR) and SunPower (Nasdaq:SPWRA) yesterday, and related comments about module oversupply. We think the stock has tremendously oversold at current levels, and this morning's raise in guidance validates that sentiment.

Aspire Week in Review - Week Ended August 29, 2008
This week, heading into the Democratic National Committee, Robert F. Kennedy wrote a commentary in support of Obama's energy plan commenting that,
"A sophisticated, well-crafted energy policy designed to de-carbonize America is the centerpiece of Sen. Barack Obama's domestic economic package," and that"Obama understands, as John McCain does not, that an intelligent energy policy is also the natural fulcrum for U.S. foreign policy and national security."
Abroad, Japan's Ministry of Economy and Industry said it intends to spend 433 billion yen ($4 billion) on measures to reduce emissions. It will spend as much as 23.8 billion yen on subsidies and tax breaks for residential solar installations and businesses to increase output of renewable energy.

In an effort to curb gasoline consumption, China's government doubled the sale taxes on the biggest cars from 20% to 40% while cutting taxes on smaller cars. Doubtful that our government will be able to be as efficient, as partisan politics continue to play a dividing role in bringing any coherent and cohesive energy policy to the table for a consensus. Congress will be back from its reprieve in September and the GOP seems to have done a better job strong-arming the Dems into giving on some level of a domestic drilling program, and getting the public to buy into the rationale, as cloudy as it really is.

Energy debate increased this week with House Republican theatrics calling for Pelosi to return to Congress for a debate on opening up offshore drilling, Senator Obama outlining his energy plan in Lansing Michigan and McCain's camp responding with sarcasm (see comments below). McCain continued his push for opening drilling and embracing nuclear, while visiting Michigan's Fermi 2 nuclear plant. He also expressed his opposition to the $300 billion farm bill and subsidies for ethanol.

This is on the heels of a $298 million deal it announced last week, adding up to a total of $584 million in supply agreements. SpectraScience (OTCBB:SCIE) Gets Key Validation of Technology with University of Iowa Order
With what we believe to be the first of many announcements, "University of Iowa to Begin Using LUMA(R) Cervical Pre-Cancer Imaging Device", we think SpectraScience (OTCBB:SCIE) is a compelling stock, and more timely now that it is demonstrating traction on its announced move from R&D into commercialization in the multi-billion dollar cancer screening and diagnostic sector. The company designs and develops cancer screening devices that demonstrate a higher degree of sensitivity than current gold standards, which result in more efficiency at the physician's clinic and earlier detection which paves the way for reduced mortality rates through better and earlier treatment. The company announced this week that the University of Iowa will be using its LUMA cervical cancer screening devices at its clinic.

T. Boone Pickens continued to gather media momentum as he made rounds on CNN's Lou Dobbs to pitch the "Pickens Plan" for investing in renewable resources and natural gas. But Pickens isn't the only one offering up plans, on the heels of Al Gore's challenge last week to the nation to replace 100% of its electricity demand with renewable energy in the next 10 years. Most recent, Jaeger-Waldau, of the Institute for Energy recommended blanketing the Sahara desert with solar panels, spanning the circumference of Wales. He says that just 0.3% of the energy hitting the Sahara could power all of Europe.
